The 3DS would be nothing without a good library of exclusive games
because nowadays, people can get not only the likes of Angry Birds and Fruit
Ninja on their phones and tablets, but even games like Resident Evil, Need For
Speed and Infinity Blade. Fortunately, the average 3DS game still outclasses
the average phone game by leaps and bounds. Before that lets talk about extra
features your 3DS will come with like Streetpass, Spotpass and Miis.
A Mii is an avatar that represents you on all of Nintendo's latest
hardware. With your 3DS's inner camera, you can take a picture of yourself,
which will be converted to a Mii. You can then edit it or create one from
scratch. The importance of this is presentation. You can add other people to
your 3DS friend list very similarly to how you would add people to your
Blackberry Messenger but there is no option to use your real picture as an
avatar.
Let’s talk about StreetPass Just imagine you had your 3DS in your
pocket/bag with the Wi-Fi On in sleep mode and you went to a nearby store to
buy some snacks. You get back home and because I happened to be at
that same store with my 3DS on sleep mode, you'll see my Mii on your 3DS! Not
just that, let's assume you have Super Street Fighter IV but you took your
Spiderman game with you instead. You will STILL have my Street Fighter data
downloaded to your 3DS through the StreetPass feature! So what kind of data are
we talking about?
In the racing game Mario Kart, for example, every time one breaks a
track speed record on any race track, his "ghost", a recording of how
he drove during track, is saved. So the next time anyone plays a speed trail on
that track, they will race against the ghost that was downloaded. Getting to
the finish line before the ghost will set a new track record, which will also
be downloaded by anyone who bumps into me with their 3DS in sleep mode! The fun
never Stops! The data will be exchanged
through StreetPass, as long as you have the relevant save data on your 3DS,
even if the game wasn't inside your 3DS at the time you encountered another 3DS
owner.
SpotPass, this feature allows your 3DS to automatically download updates
just by you being in the range of an open Wi-Fi network. The 3DS has features
built with games in mind, so playing games on this thing delivers a much more
complete experience than on almost any other portable device. When aiming a gun
in a game like Resident Evil: Revelations, or simply looking around in an
adventure game like The Legend of Zelda, you can move the 3DS around the way
you would have moved a digital camera, giving you a faster and more precise way
to aim than using an analogy stick. The analogy stick is very comfortable for
moving your character, by the way. Some games use the top screen for gameplay
while the bottom screen shows your map and shortcut icons to your items, so
that you don't have to press the start button and cycle through menus. Other games
may have you holding your 3DS vertically like a book, controlling the game
exclusively through the touch screen while the other screen shows additional
stats.
If you're on a tight budget and can't get many games, I would suggest
you get only Mario Kart 7, Resident Evil Revelations, The Legend of Zelda:
Ocarina of Time 3D and Kid Icarus: Uprising. You can also download free demos of upcoming or recently released games
from the eShop, play your old DSi cartridges on the 3DS, or download full games
(usually cheaper and not as awesome) from the eShop.
