Samsung @ CES 2013

At CES 2013 Samsung unveiled its new line of cameras called the SMART CAMERA 2.0. This new range features the WB250F/WB200F, WB800F and WB30F (Long Zoom Models); the DV150F (Dual View Model) and ST150F (Stylish Feature Camera). New features allow users to shoot and share their photos instantly, adding to their connective camera experience. The ‘One Click, Simplify’ concept enables connected devices to seamlessly connect making sharing images easier. The user interface combines touch-type and big screen functionality, enabling faster editing and uploading to other devices and social networking sites.

All these cameras are Wi-Fi enabled which gives in user a broader range of connectivity options. For example the “AutoShare” function allows images to simultaneously be sent and saved straight to a Smartphone, via a Wi-Fi connection, as soon as the photo is taken on a camera.

Samsungs new flagship camera in the Long Zoom range is the WB250F. It features an 18x optical zoom, has 14.2 Megapixels and a 24mm Lens. It also incorporates a hybrid touch LCD screen and five-way navigational keys, allowing users to manipulate controls to their performance. It also has a full manual mode option for experienced photographers; this gives complete control over the camera’s settings.

 Curved OLED TV

But what really took centre stage and Samsung CES booth was it new curved OLED TVs. You heard that right – making them thinner than your average novel wasn’t good enough, now we’ve started bending them too. The curved panel provides dept to the content displayed for a more life-like viewing experience with its immersive panorama effect. The curved panel also allows the distance between the user and TV screen to be the same from almost any angle.

So what do you think about Samsung’s tech offerings for 2013? Would you be getting yourself a SMART CAMERA 2.0 this year? Or is it time you chucked that old flat TV out the window and got yourself a nice curved one instead! Leave a comment below. Don’t forget every time you leave a comment you increase the chances of getting a "bendy" TV for your birthday this year.

LG @ CES 2013

LG was also at this year’s CES (Consumer Electronic Show) and it showcased its groundbreaking 84 inch Ultra HD (3840x2160 pixel) television – LG 84LM9600. These high-end flat screen TVs would be available for consumers in 84-, 65- and 55-inch configurations this year. Incorporated with LG’s Triple XD Engine to enhance picture quality these Ultra HD a.k.a. “4K” Smart TVs will upscale Full HD (1080p) content to brilliant 4K. To boot, these TVs are also LG CINEMA 3D models, meaning you’ll also be able to enjoy your 3D content in brilliant Ultra HD.

LG 84LM9600
With LG’s 3D depth control (which works similar to that of the Nintendo 3DS), viewers can fine-tune the perceived distance between objects on the screen. Another interesting innovation from LG for gamers is LG Dual Play. Those among us familiar with competitive multiplayer games would understand the split screen concept. Here the television screen is split in two, either horizontally or vertically - to give players different perspectives in the game being played. With LG’s Dual Play functionality players (in supported games) are able to see different images on same screen simultaneously. Although this functionality does have its draw backs as it reduces the visual quality of the game being played and this feature isn’t applicable to 3 or 4 player split screen. LG’s Ultra HD TVs also feature a 2.2 sound system with two subwoofers.

For those of use already pumped and ready to get on the Ultra HD ‘bandwagon’, I do ask you to exercise caution. The reason being that no ‘Ultra High Definition’ video content standard is currently available and it is possible that if and when these standards are developed, current versions of Ultra HD TVs (like the LG 84LM9600) may not be supported. Resulting in compatibility issues similar to what was experienced in the UK and Australia with Apple’s Third Generation iPad LTE.

LG Magic Remote

All new LG Smart TVs will feature a redesigned LG magic remote which have easy to read LED – backlit buttons with a slimmer more comfortable form factor. The redesigned remote will continue to support voice, gestures, point and wheel. The redesigned “magic remote” now features Natural Language Recognition Software (Voice Mate) to improve the use of voice Commands.

So what do you think about LG’s tech offerings for 2013? Would you being for Ultra HD this year? Feel free to let up know by leaving a comment below. Don’t forget every time you leave a comment you increase the chances of your favourite sitcom being ported to Ultra HD format!
