Microsoft Announces New Tablet
With the introduction of the iPad the tablet race was
officially on, and it wasn’t long before other manufactures and developers
acknowledge the market need for slate like mobile computers. Today in the Nigerian
technology market contenders in the tablet market are Apple’s iPad and Samsung
Galaxy tablet. For older consumers that tablet trend was received well even
though some people found it difficult migrating from the screen and key broad
model they had grown so accustomed to – but that’s where I think this new devices
will shine.
A few weeks ago Microsoft announced the existence of a new home-brewed
tablet device simply called “surface”. Personally I feel this may be the dawn
of a new tablet era or a phenomenal flop, but only time will tell. Let me introduce
this new tablet from Microsoft. Yes, the name of the device just “surface”, I would insert a pun here but it’s
been done so much over the last few weeks, I’d rather not. Let’s leave the
jokes to the comedians, ok people?
We’ll you may be thinking “oh, it’s just another tablet - big
deal”. Well yes, it is another tablet, but it’s a tablet with a twist.
Here is the lowdown -
the windows surface tablet will be available in two flavours. The first of
which is the surface Windows RT (a version of Windows 8) and Surface Windows 8
Pro which will be made available a few weeks later. This later model will be
able to play true PC games meaning you could buy or download any standard PC
game and run it on the tablet. Impressive, no?
But the real unique features that these devices have would
have to be their integrated kickstand which allows you to prop-up the devices
leaving your hands free and also a special flip cover which serves as an
external keyboard and touchpad which is also magnetically attached so you can
pop it off or on as you please. Pretty cool, huh? Yea, we thought so too.
So all this sounds nice but do you want to know what’s under
the hood? Admittedly the specifications of this new device and relatively few
but this how, what we know about it stacks up against its future competitors.

Admittedly it not much but it does give you a feeling of suspense.

How to Use the Drifta 2 (Wi-Fi) on a Wi-Fi Only Android Tablet (Samsung Galaxy Tab 7", 8.9" and 10.1")
In this article I’ll be giving you a step-by-step guide on
how properly set up your DStv Mobile Drifta on a Wi-Fi only android tablet, so
let get started!
Understanding and Troubleshooting the Decoder App
Whenever you launch the DStv mobile decoder application on any
android device it always goes through an authorisation process, in which the
App sends “a small authentication request to the DStv Mobile servers”.
Truth-be-told, this is usually where all the problems start.
As a precautionary measure,
- you should always make sure you tablet is connected to a Wi-Fi connection with internet capabilities before you launch the application, without an active internet connection at the application initiation the authentication process will fail.
- you should also assure that you tablet is not accidentally connected to your Drifta instead of a Wi-Fi connection with internet capabilities, your Drifta is not connected to the internet so if your device is connected to the Drifta the authentication process will also fail.
Tablet –Drifta Connection Walkthrough
- Connect to the internet with your tablets Wi-Fi connection, your Drifta should be preferably off at this point to reduce the risk of confusion.
- Launch the Decoder App, the application should authenticate and will fail to connect to the Drifta.
- Power on the Drifta, and wait for about 3 minutes then tap the rescan button, the Drifta will be found with the name “DStv0*****”.
- Select your Drifta and tap continue the application will connect to the Drifta and you will soon be able to view, your channels. Nothing to it!
PLEASE NOTE THAT ONCE THE DRIFTA IS CONNECTED TO THE TABLET
VIA WI-FI YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO BROWSE THE WEB AND CONNECTING TO WI-FI
HOTSPOT WILL TERMINATE THE TABLET DRIFT CONNECTION.

Sony Launches New Tablet
Sony very recently burst into the tablet PC market, launching two new tablets PCs namely the Sony Tablet S & P which easily rival the iPad 2 and Samsung Galaxy 10.1.
The Sony Tablet S has a 9.4” touch screen display, running Android 3.2 (Honeycomb), 16/32 GB internal storage, Wi-Fi connectivity, Infrared Port, 3G capability (optional), 1GHz Dual-Core Cortex-A9 processor, 1GB of RAM, 5 MP camera with HD recoding and weighs about the same as an iPad 2.
The Sony Tablet P is considerably smaller and looks like a Nintendo DS, it has two 5.5” touch screen displays, also running Android 3.2, 4GM internal storage, microSD slot and shares similar specifications with the Tablet S.
So it’s basically everything you’d expect from a high-end Android tablet, so what makes this device special you ask? I’ll tell you.
The tablet S has an unusual wedge-shape so when placed on a flat surface, let’s say your desk, it sets the screen at an angle so you don’t have to constantly bend over to see the screen and type. Its clever weight distribution gives you better grip since most of the weight is at that edge, making it much more balanced and comfortable to hold and carry about.
Both tablets are PlayStation certified which means you get out-of-the-box gaming with PlayStation classics like Crash Bandicoot, you can also download original PlayStation titles online not to mention the millions of other games and applications available on the android market. Also the Tablet S infrared emitter allows it to be used as a universal remote control, so you can turn on your Panasonic TV and Samsung home theatre as you check you inbox all at once. Kiss those days of juggling remote controls good-bye!
With all this said in this author’s opinion I’d highly recommend the Sony Tablet, especially if you’re all about the latest gear, updates and mods.
